The Transformative Mediation Model

In their book, The Promise of Mediation (1994), Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger describe transformative mediation:

"The transformative framework is based on a relational view of the world: the view that people are autonomous beings who are at the same time fundamentally connected to one another, and who are constantly striving to balance their autonomy with relating to others."

In the transformative model, the mediator's role is to remain neutral, facilitate a respectful process, and support the parties as they work to resolve their differences in a mutually satisfying way. Their interaction becomes more constructive and provides them with a way to approach future conflicts and disputes.

The transformative framework works for many types of conflict resolution processes, including interpersonal, small group, and organizational applications.

Types of Mediation Offered

At River Group Mediation Services, we've been mediating relational conflicts and disputes for nearly fifteen years. We're committed to facilitating a process that gives each person the opportunity to be heard and understood.  Some of the situations we mediate include:

Fees

Mediation usually costs a fraction of what litigation costs.

Both parties share the mediator's fee, and you're only charged for the time spent in mediation sessions and for time spent drafting agreements and consulting with your independent counsel or other professional adviser. Our standard rate is very competitive.

The rate may increase for multiple parties and/or extremely complex issues.

About our Company Name.

We chose our company name, in part, because our Founder's maiden name, Joki, is a Finnish word meaning "river".

Here's the rest of the story:

The river is a great metaphor for conflict: rivers can be deep or shallow, rippling or still. They have a beginning and end. Sometimes there are obstacles in the river and sometimes the obstacles combined with the current and changes in elevation create fast-moving rapids or even a waterfall. These are natural occurrences but can be difficult to navigate.

But with the right tools and equipment and some thoughtful problem solving, even the wildest of rivers can be navigated one way or another.

That's how we see it here at River Group Mediation. Let us help your clients navigate the normal turbulence in their lives.
